P. Budapest Blue Group dragen !
Jim Jermyn :"Many decades ago the former Curator of Munich Botanic Garden, Wilhelm Schacht had a good friend in Budapest. The friend was a keen grower of Pasque Flowers, Pulsatilla. As well as creating his own hybrids he was familiar with the variation amongst local Hungarian populations of the local species P. grandis. The late Wilhelm told me (personal communication) how his friend selected a special plant as a gift for him which he took back to Munich. Another friend of Wilhelm’s was the late Valerie Finnis to whom part of the original plant was given as a present. The amazing form was given the name P. ‘Budapest’ and Valerie presented it to the RHS Joint Rock Garden Committee whereupon it was given an FCC! The plant subsequently died and all progeny were raised from seed. Generations on, the plants are still exquisite, however, quite different to the award winning specimen. We now call the new generation P. Budapest Blue Group as the plants are perfectly fertile, but variable! Please excuse this rambling, but the story is relevant beside the stunning beauty of this valuable introduction!! In full flower here at Branklyn!"
